Katy's Big Dig

Yes, that's me in that excavator - and I have a HUGE smile on my face! My Christmas gift from Mike was a trip to "Dig This" in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, where I had a full day to play in the dirt operating an excavator and a bulldozer. We left last Thursday morning for a 5-day jaunt and from start to finish it was a trip to remember!
We had such a relaxing and fun time in Steamboat, which is just as quaint and cozy as a ski-town should be. The weather was sunny and just perfect each day. We visited parks, ate a lot of tasty food and made friends with many CT-transplants.
My foray into the world of heavy equipment was fantastic! An added perk was that Mike was able to operate an excavator, too. The Weather Channel was on-site filming and they wanted to have all machines running so he was recruited. I was interviewed for the segment, so who knows - my 15-seconds of fame may bring me a spot on 'The Construction Channel' someday!
We promise we'll post a collage/slide-show soon to give you an idea of the beauty of the mountains - and the size of the bulldozer that I drove. I have a new respect for those who spend 8-hours in heavy equipment - no shock absorbers! I did build a road and dig trenches and pile rocks. All skills that I'm sure will come in handy - someday!
It was an educational and exciting adventure and one of the most memorable trips I've ever taken and I thank Mike for making it happen! (Now, what the heck am I going to do for a follow-up gift for him next Christmas ? Yikes!)

Mike really surprised me with a great and unique gift, but what else would I expect from such a great and unique guy! I am such a a lucky hard-hat gal!
