Memorial Day in New Jersey

On Saturday we took a road-trip to New Jersey. True to form we packed a lot into two days.

We started with a visit to Mike's cousin Frank's newly opened BBQ restaurant in Denville. We sampled several spicy bites. - yummy! It was so tasty that we stopped by again on Sunday to pick-up some brisket 'to go' to CT with us.

After some relaxing at the hotel, we traveled to Morristown to enjoy a lovely dinner with friends Al and Lizbeth at a terrific eclectic restaurant. After dinner Mike and I walked a few blocks to 'The Side Bar', a cozy cigar bar we enjoy whenever we're in town, and enjoyed cigars and watching the Mets.

On Sunday morning we picked-up Mike's dad, Jack and his friend Nora and enjoyed a leisurely and meandering ride through the New Jersey countryside, passing farms and beautiful open spaces on our way to a picnic at Mike's brother Greg's home in Washington.

There we 'hung out' with Mike's brother Steve, his wife Marie, their son Sean, Greg and his wife Anne. It was so nice to relax, soak up the calm, warm day and spend time with family. Here are Greg, Mike, Steve and Sean. No family resemblance there, huh?! Below Steve, Jack and Greg discuss the state of the day.

Steve's daughter Stephanie sent along a delicious, home-made birthday for her Uncle Mike, and as you can see, he gave it his best huff-n-puff to blow out all of the candles.

After an uneventful drive back to CT we watched the 11 o'clock news and recharged ourselves for Monday's festivities: the New Milford Memorial Day Parade, the annual Rotary Duck Race and Margarita's with Peter and Tricia. Stay tuned for a post on the parade ... All in all, another lovely visit to New Jersey and a great time spent with the Scofield clan.
