The End of Summer

We had a great summer and sent it out with lots of fun. The Wednesday before Labor Day weekend we went with Jack to Monmouth Park to enjoy the horses. Katy was the big winner but we all had a great time sitting in the clubhouse enjoying the action. We must have been having fun because we forgot to take pictures. That evening we headed over to the Randolph Scofields for a great dinner. Chris and JoAnne are always great hosts, Dylan and Dan are becoming such poised, articulate young men. We celebrated Dan's birthday and, since Dan's girlfriend was there, Uncle Mike cautioned him try hard not to break too many hearts as we Scofield males are prone to do.
On Saturday August 30 Mike got together with brothers Steve and Greg, nephew Brian and his dad, Jack, for the round of golf they'd been trying to arrange all summer. Grandpa Jack was the official scorekeeper - Greg is an unbelievable golfer; he and Brian challenged each other to see who could hit it further than 300 yards! Steve and Mike enjoyed the spectacle and held their own in the process. If you'd like to see some expert golfing form, click here!

On Sunday we took a beautiful drive around our Litchfield County through old towns, fields, woods and beautiful vistas. On Monday we had lunch overlooking Candlewood Lake at Down-The-Hatch.
Then we fired up the '75 MGB for the first time in over a year to head out for a convertible sports car spin (Mike had been waiting for this)!! Here's the picture of the tow truck dropping it off back at Wildacres - we had a great 15 mile drive!
After getting some reliable transportation we headed to the Hopkins Inn to
watch the sun set. What a beautiful day! Here are a few more pics.

Trying for as long as we could to avoid work we closed out the summer with the New Milford Rotary Golf outing on September 3. As with most not-for-profit events in New Milford, this one was headed by Katy. It was a great day! Beautiful weather, great fellowship and a lot of money raised for the Red Cross. For two couples with an average handicap of about 20 we did OK with a scramble score of one under par.
