Fall is in the air ...

Comparing this photo from last Fall to the one above says it all: mums have replaced the bright petunias and geraniums and green leaves are turning to gold and red and falling, falling everywhere. We have had some brisk morning temperatures this past week and the smell of the wood smoke is in the evening air. Sure signs of Summer waning: there are apples at the grocery and fresh cider for sale at the local mill. Every season evokes pleasant thoughts for me and Fall brings to mind: the faint smell of moth balls as wool coats are brought out to wear to church; the warmth of the kitchen as I move from nightly outdoor grilling to oven-baked casseroles of Fall veggies; football Sunday's with wine and cheese and the Sunday paper and the most perfect, crystal-blue skies in the late afternoon with just a hint of winter in the wind. Gods green earth is turning to muted shades on it's way to winter-white. How wonderful!
